The Oscars to me are like the Super Bowl. I get very hyped up for this event…I make a point to try and see the movies that are up for nomination. This year unfortunately I didn’t have time but I did get a chance to see at least The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Beginners, Bridemaids, RIO, Drive and The Ides of March. If I get the chance before Sunday I will make an attempt to rent Moneyball, The Help and Midnight in Paris.
With the 84th Academy Awards upon us next week, the real question on everyone’s mind is what the female nominees will be wearing that night. We’ve seen their choices for the SAG Awards and the Golden Globes but the biggest night of Red Carpet Fashion is the Oscars. With New York Fashion week behind us, I have to wonder which star will be walking the red carpet in one of the fave designers from A/W NYFW.
Besides the anticipation of the words…”And the Oscar goes to…,” I rev up my evening for the pre-shows to see the fabulous fashion going on that night. I’m excited to see what the edgy Rooney Mara, the talented Viola Davis and the quirky but beautiful as always Michelle Williams will decide to wear and of course though she’s not nominated for an award everyone is always salivating to see the sexy Angelina Jolie. I swear that woman could put on a black plastic bag and still look gorgeous.
Besides taking a guess at who will win the Oscars, I decided to take a try this year at figuring out what the women on the carpet will be parading in.
To give you a reminder of who is nominated this year…here are the nominees for:
Actress In A Leading Role:
• Glenn Close in Albert Nobbs
• Viola Davis in The Help
• Rooney Mara in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
• Meryl Streep in The Iron Lady
• Michelle Williams in My Week With Marilyn
Actress In a Supporting Role:
• Bérénice Bejo in The Artist
• Jessica Chastain in The Help
• Melissa McCarthy in Bridesmaids
• Janet McTeer in Albert Nobbs
• Octavia Spencer in The Help
Here are my fashion choices for the following nominees:
Glenn Close

Glenn Close in Giorgio Armani | Golden Globes (Zimbio) + J. Mendel | AW12 Collection (Robert Mitra)
• Glen Close has the perfect complexion and statuesque figure to carry this J. Mendel dress on the red carpet..how stunning a color to contrast the rich red carpet.
Viola Davis

Viola Davis in Marchesa | SAG Awards (Hollywood Life) + Marchesa | AW12 Collection (Giovanni Giannoni)
• Viola Davis has been running around most recent events in bright bold colors so this Marchesa bronze metallic dress would be unexpected but gorgeous against her skin tone but still a grand statement against the red carpet at the Oscars.
Rooney Mara

Rooney Mara in Nina Ricci | Golden Globes (BroadImage) + Carmen Marc Valvo | AW12 Collection (John Aquino)
• I would love to see Rooney Mara in something other than black and white. The gorgeous muted chartreuse fits her signature style of edgy but elegant.
Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep in Alessandra Rich | Golden Globes (NYDailyNews) + Oscar de la Renta | AW12 Collection
• A serious actress like Meryl Streep deserves some seriously rich color, I love this deep teal and think she would look beautiful accepting her award in this dress.
Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams in Valentino | SAG Awards (Zimbio) + Jenny Packham | AW12 Collection (Yannis Vlamos)
• Michelle always likes to step outside the norm when it comes to dressing for the awards so I would love to see her in this Jenny Packham titanium gown with delicate beaded sleeves and a statement red belt.
Bérénice Bejo

Bérénice Bejo in Emilio Pucci | Golden Globes (WireImage) + Creatures of the Wind | AW12 Collection
• We are all still getting to know Bérénice Bejo’s style so I visualized this Creatures of the Wind White gown on the red carpet.
Octavia Spencer

Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shji | SAG Awards (Getty Images) + Carolina Herrera | AW12 Collection (Yannis Vlamos)
• The complexity of this Carolina Herrera dress would look beautiful on the full figure Octavia Spencer…it’s elegant and a bold color for a stunning woman.
And of course:
Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace | Golden Globes (WireImage) + Jason Wu | AW12 Collection (Giovanni Giannoni)
• As I said, Angelina could look good in any dress so I would love to see her try this glamorous yet edgy Jason Wu dress at the Oscars, we’ve never really seen her in pattern dresses so I would love to see how she covets this dress of a pink satin slit skirt and a lacey top.
And though the next dress is not for any particular celebrity, I do feel that Zac Posen’s AW12 Collection is absolutely without a doubt Oscar-Worthy Dressing…each dress is show stopping and here is my favorite:

Zac Posen | AW12 Collection (Thomas Iannaccone)

If you love the Oscars just as much as I do, please go to www.oscars.com for more information on the upcoming Oscar nominees and a glimpse as to what is to come that night. They even have iPhone/iPad apps to download and your own personal ballots to vote at home.
Since I do love the Oscars so much, I will be planning some cool ideas for drinks, hors d’oeuvres and fashion stylings for the actual night of the Oscars…stay tuned!
Also look out for my Twitter posts on the big night, Sunday February 26th starting at 7pm when the pre-show will be aired.
